About the Watches

The RM 52-01 Tourbillon Skull is a contemporary watch from the company that demonstrates its artistic freedom. This is the second piece of the Skull series, which debuted in 2012. It has the skull form that symbolizes the Richard Mille brand: an anti-conformist attitude centered on innovation and progress. Each new watch reflects a cry for a watchmaking revolutionary. The 43mm RM 52-01 Tourbillon Skull is powered by the RM052 manual winding tourbillon, housed in a PVD-treated grade 5 titanium baseplate. The PVD-treated titanium has been put through a series of tests before being authorized, and it has exceptional stiffness and precisely smooth surfaces. However, that’s where the similarities with the RM 052 end: the skull and back of the skull are now hand-beveled and fashioned from 5N red gold. Richard Mille also created the casing using a novel composite material called nano-ceramic.

The watch’s bezel and case back are made of TZP. This low-density (6-g.cm3) material is extremely scratch-resistant and features a low heat conductivity coefficient. TZP has a noticeable grain that gives the optimum finishing and is composed of 95 percent yttrium-stabilized zirconium. As a result, the bezel and case back can be micro-blasted, while the edges can be hand-polished.

Richard Mille chose carbon nanotubes for the center casing. This is because of their known ability to preserve the tourbillon movement housed in the center from impacts. The carbon nanotube case center, which is attached to a black polymer, enables the lightening of the timepiece.

The three-part casing is exceptionally light and completely black. It’s put together using an average of 20 grade 5 titanium spline screws. The torque-limiting crown with DLC treatment adds the perfect finish.

Similarly, the Rolex Day-Date watch comes in an 18 ct gold dial featuring 32 diamond hour indicators as well as a Roman VI and IX in 18 ct gold with 24 diamonds. The Rolex Day-Date has long been known for prestige and creativity since it was first introduced in 1956.
