Rolex Day-Date in platinum with an ice-blue dial set

Australian actor Chris Hemsworth is wearing a 40mm Rolex Day-Date in platinum with an ice-blue dial, surrounded by a trapezoid-cut diamond-set bezel, presented on a presidential bracelet.

The Day-Date 40 was launched at BaselWorld 2015 and began a new chapter in the history of one of the brand’s most iconic models. It is powered by the highly innovative 14 patents caliber 3255, and its material platinum is the most valuable precious metal and extremely corrosion resistant.

Overall Review

The Day-Date timepiece has been the company’s premier men’s model since 1956. The Rolex Day-Date 40 line is by far the latest iteration of the Day-Date (also known as the “Rolex President”). It features an ice-blue dial filled with 10 baguette-cut diamonds and is encircled by a trapezoid-cut diamond-studded bezel.

The platinum Day-Date is the first Rolex piece to feature a fluted platinum bezel. It might seem like a modest improvement. But since it is a Rolex, it’s arguably one of the timepieces that are best recognized worldwide for being the first watch to display the date and day of the week in a separate window.

The unique element is still present because the caliber 3255 movement, which was debuted in 2015, represented a significant advance in accuracy. Indeed, this was a fantastic achievement! Rolex described it as a 2/+2 seconds variation every day and was authorized by the Superlative Chronometer accreditation.

The Caliber 3255 is still employed in the Day-Date. Besides, it continues to provide a secured level of precision that exceeds the widely utilized COSC criterion.

The time including core seconds, the date, and of course, the day of the week opening with the fully specified day, are all complexities. The calendar discs immediately move to their new location whenever the date shifts at midnight.

The Chronergy escapement from Rolex, along with other things, enabled the caliber 3255 to have a greater power reserve of 70 hours. Such escapement’s high-energy economy, exceptional reliability, and insensitivity to the electromagnetic field are attributes of the nickel-phosphorus construction. Of course, the blue Parachrom hairspring that is not only immune to magnetic fields but also up to ten times more accurate than a conventional hairspring in the event of shocks is a part of the movement.

In addition, the Rolex Day-Date features a 40mm diameter, a recognizable Oyster casing, as well as an equally recognizable Presidential bracelet. This three-piece linking President bracelet was expressly designed for the debut of the renowned Oyster Perpetual Day-Date in 1956. It is still only used with the Day-Date and premium metal variants of the Datejust.

A horizontal line typically appears beneath the Rolex emblem on the crown to denote the Oyster casing’s 100-meter water resistance. This indicates that it is a Twinlock crown in Rolex jargon.

Lastly, the Rolex Day-Date’s sapphire crystal has a twofold anti-reflective treatment. This is in addition to the recognizable Cyclops lens covering the date display. On the other hand, the AR finish is brand-new.
