Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date History

Rolex has introduced a new platinum-cased Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40mm model with an easily recognized ice-blue dial. Just a few Classic models in the Oyster Perpetual selection have a fluted bezel, which is a cornerstone of Rolex’s artistic heritage. It has only been manufactured in 18 ct gold to date. However, the platinum fluted bezel on this new Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40 was made by using a unique new production process.

The Rolex Day-Date was initially debuted in 1956. It was the first calendar timepiece to display the day of the week fully spelled out in an arc-like window at noon on the dial, a technical accomplishment at the time. The day of the week comes in 26 different languages choices. Besides, the Day-Date collection is built entirely of precious metals, such as 18 ct yellow, white, or 950 platinum or Everose gold.

The Oyster case, which is 40 mm in diameter, is water-resistant up to a depth of 100 meters (or 330 feet). The watch’s central casing is also made of solid 950 platinum.

The back of the casing is framed with fine fluting. It is hermetically screwed downwards using a unique tool that only Rolex watchmakers may use to access its movement. Furthermore, the Twinlock winding crown, which is equipped with a twofold waterproofing mechanism, is firmly fastened to the casing.

The crystal is composed of practically scratchproof sapphire and has an anti-reflective covering. It also has a Cyclops lens pointing to 3 o’clock for simplicity when reading the date. Likewise, the timepiece’s movement is well-protected by the waterproof Oyster casing.

The calibre 3255, which is a self-winding movement created and manufactured solely by Rolex, is used in the new Day-Date 40 version. It was introduced in 2015 and provides exceptional performance when it comes to power retention, precision, shock, and magnetic field resistance, accessibility, and reliability.

The innovative Chronergy escapement is used in the Calibre 3255, which mixes exceptional energy efficiency and high dependability. It’s made using nickel-phosphorus and isn’t affected by magnetic fields. Rolex also uses a paramagnetic material to make an optimum blue parachrom hairspring for movement.

The Rolex overcoil on the blue parachrom hairspring ensures the calibre’s consistency in all positions. The oscillator is mounted atop the revolutionary high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers built by Rolex to increase the shock resistance of the movement. In addition, the power reserve of the Calibre 3255 is roughly 70 hours.

The President band on this innovative Platinum Perpetual Day-Date 40 edition features an exquisite hidden folding Crownclasp. It also comes with ceramic inserts within the links to improve flexibility as well as longevity. Furthermore, a hidden attachment technique guarantees that the bracelet and its case have a consistent visual appearance.

The Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 40, as with all Rolex timepieces, is enclosed by Rolex’s Superlative Chronometer certification, which was redefined in 2015. The green cover that comes with each Rolex wristwatch symbolizes the Superlative Chronometer status. It is also accompanied by a worldwide five-year guarantee.
