Pablo Picasso – Patek Philippe Moon-Phases Perpetual Calendar

The late Spanish painter and sculptor Pablo Picasso, who is regarded as the most influential artists of the 20th century, wears a very rare 37 mm Patek Philippe Moon-Phases Perpetual Calendar in 18k yellow gold with a silver dial, reference 2497. Only 179 examples of this reference were made from 1951 until 1963.

A price is almost impossible to set but in 2017 Ethiopia’s legendary emperor Haile Selassie’s Patek Philippe 2497 (with a black gilt dial) was sold on auction in 2017 for $2.9 million USD. But the story with Picasso’s Patek is far more spectacular: after his passing away in 1973 the whereabouts of the watch were unknown, and it is today one of the biggest mysteries of haute horology.

With that said, what do you think the price would be on an auction?
